Research into Viral Advertising

I decided to research into viral advertising, and the kind of videos or websites that are creative and unusual ways to advertise films. One particular film viral advertising campaign caught my interest; for the remake of the film Carrie, starring Chloe Moretz.

Because the films was a remake of the 80's Classic, the producers and distributors knew they had to do something exciting to make sure this film was seen as its own. And they did just that. Here is the video of the viral madness in action.

In this video you will find a fake wall being set up in a simple ol' coffee shop, with actors surrounding it. This is when the prank is played. With remote control tables and chairs, and spring loaded picture frames and book, i don't think this prank could get any cooler. The idea of this video was to scare a few people into thinking this girl had some sort of power after a man spills coffee onto her laptop. The video shows customers who have no idea what is going on running and screaming out of the store, which is hilarious and not surprisingly why it became viral.
The video shows everything, from creation to execution to aftermath, and i think that's what caught my eye about this viral marketing video, because it is a new and exciting way of getting your film heard about, and certainly a memorable one.

Carrie is the story of a shy teenage girl, who discovers she has telekinetic powers. Carrie is abused by her intensely God-fearing mother and is bullied by all of her classmates. The mean teens unleash a plan to humiliate Carrie with pigs blood on prom night, and she unleashes her revenge in one of the most violent and terrifying ways possible.
The reason I thought this would be a good marketing campaign that would help us with our film because it has elements of psychological turmoil involved, and it was such a unique way of advertising that i thought it would be something new and fresh that we may try.
