Individual research into an idea for a viral advertisement.

Individual research:
The Blair witch project:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZu1cTg-xUM - The blair witch project trailer.

Film storyline:
Incase you didn't know the film is about three students that go missing in the woods after they have travelled to create a film they went to Maryland to make a short documentary about the local Blair Witch however only end up leaving their footage behind

Viral marketing technique:
It was advertised through different methods and techniques from the multiple sources of the internet, However as the viral marketing for this film was in 1999, social networking websites like: Facebook, Twitter and myspace weren't invented. Just one website helped promote The Blair witch project, in which contained message boards, competitions etc. The website was called 'blairwitchproject.com' in which received 21,222, 589 hits up to date, Although the strategy for advertising this film was very simple the effects it had were unbelievably effective. Especially considering the fact that the film was made by a small independent film company, it made $250,000,000 in returnI decided to look into the methods of viral advertising through the use of the internet, I have looked at the ways and methods in which films can be advertised throughout the use of websites and smart phones. I looked at the viral advertisement for the film 'The blair witch project (1999)': The film was created in 1999 and cost around $350,0000 to make, and went on to make $250 worldwide, in which made it one of the largest profit to cost ratios in film history.
